Garmin nüvi is a versatile travel assistant that's approximately the size of a deck of playing cards. The nüvi is a portable GPS navigator, traveler's reference, and digital... more...entertainment system, all in one. Combined with detailed maps, the nüvi provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and finger-touchscreen control - making it easy to find your way anywhere. The unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name. The nüvi also offers a travel kit of useful travel tools to help keep any journey fun: MP3 player, audio book player, JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, and calculator. In addition, optional software packages such as the Language Guide and Travel Guide can be added for language and content support.

I've had this GPS for a little over 6 months now and feel this is a good time to write a review. First let me say my budget was around $200...no more and I'd certainly like to pay less but quality was an issue with so many new companies putting out their own version, I went to the many reviews and gleaned what i personally would want in a GPS. Garmin 350 came out on top, surprisingly over it's new and improved 360 model. Tom-Tom and Magellan were also on my short list with magellan dropping out rapidly. as for fast satellite acquisition time...you will travel 3 or 4 miles before acquiring the maps, now is that quick enough for you? It works for me since I drive from a small town to a larger town regularly, I pretty much don't need "Instantaneous" mapping. Reception has always been great regardless of weather. It has a feature where you can load up a playlist of songs into it, I don't use this feature but it is nice to know. I DO wish that it could be updated by its' own satellite rather than connecting to the garmin site. A lot of country roads in my area have been renamed and Garmin 2007 maps (included) do not reflect those name changes.
As for a GPS that can do it's job .... the 350 is a fine example of technology at its best. on a scale of 1-10, it gets a very SOLID 8.5. You don't need anything More than the Garmin 350 and there are a lot of inferior products out there that cost more money.
