This is very much marketed as an entry level GPS, which makes it quite expensive in my opinion. There are a couple of reasons for this, but to my mind, not enough to justify the cost.

There are maps alerady uploaded to the GPS of North America and Europe, which is a bit of a bonus - if those are the areas you want to travel.

There is a big list of things the 270 does not have, such as text-to-speech and bluetooth, automatice traffic updates, the list goes on. That's not necessarily a problem as long as you do your research and don't expect all those things.

If you want a bit more functionality then you could go for the 370 which has a lot of those type of fucntions, but then it's more expensive - to be honest, I'd go for a cheaper one as I think you're really paying through the nose for the Garmin name on this one.
