I had heard talk about GPS navigation systems, but never fully understood what they can do until I bought the Garmin nuvi 255W for myself. My boyfriend left a day earlier to drive from Wisconsin to Misourri for a large animal auction. The plan was for me to rent a car and drive down by myself the next day.
In the past, I had always printed turn by turn directions from Mapquest, but being that I was navigating alone, I thought I would give this unit a try so I didnt have to keep place of where I was at on a piece of paper.
To say the least -- I LOVE IT! It was so nice to just drive and have a voice tell me when to turn. My boyfriend drove down via the instructions from Mapquest and his route proved to take much longer. This Garmin nuvi 255W calculated the shortest route to your destination and cut my drive time down by almost an hour! Since it was the first time I had used it, I was very nervous when it took me through back country roads that seemed to go nowhere. But I had no clue where I was at, so I trusted the GPS, and it took me right to my destination! What I really loved was being able to get off route for a bite to eat and then right back on track without any confusion!
Now I use it all the time when we travel. In big cities it comes in especially helpful. A few nice features I want to point out is how the Garmin nuvi 255W "magically" knows if there is road construction and plans an alternate route for you. It will pull up points of special interest such as local shopping, hotels, restaurants, etc... You can store pictures and have the unit "remember" a location, which is very helpful if your at a large event and want to remember where you parked your car! I even use it in town for going to rummage sales!
I only wish I would have bought one of these when I was in real estate. I would recommend every car have a Garmin nuvi 255W and wonder how I ever got by without it.
