...was out in Essex, just trying out the unit to make sure I knew how it worked, my girlfriend and I decided to ask it where to go for lunch. Looking under "Food" it listed all the places it knew about and we chose the nearest pub which was the Cricketers in Clavering. Well, it was certainly a good choice and one which we would never have found without the Garmin as it took us down 10 miles of winding road to get there. The food and atmosphere were excellent and it was only when we looked at the names of the licencees that we realised it was run my Jamie Oliver's parents.
But this isn't a food review, so back to the Garmin.
I NEARLY RETURNED IT TO THE SHOP
The first couple of times I used the Garmin i3 I found that it kept losing the satellite signal, and took ages (well over 5 minutes) to work out where it was when it was first...

Advantages All-in-one; Full maps for Europe and North America, Traffic avoidance Disadvantages Cost
...the M25 got closed and then the A10 (which I got re-routed along) got closed as well. The poor Garmin just gave up, and had me sitting in traffic with no ETA. So I headed off into the countryside without instruction, and it wasn't long before the Garmin had figured out a new route that avoided large stretches of the M25. So the moral of the story is not to become over-reliant on the instructions... particularly in bad jams, it can benefit from a navigational "nudge".
Of course, you don't always have an address for where you're going. On a recent trip to Leeds, I needed to get petrol before the return leg home and didn't fancy paying motorway prices. Not knowing where any local petrol stations were, I went to the "Food, Lodging..." option of my Garmin and searched for petrol stations. It lists the closest and who they're operated by so you...

and through horizontal driving snow and rain i had perfect reception thankfully, especially as i was nowhere near any of the marked tracks, which comes from following grisslies in the mist.
I have been averaging battery life of approx 24-30 hours depending when sattelites kick in and out and use of back light. Garmin state up to 36 hours. i have personally tested the accuracyof this unit an dit is consistantly within 10 feet.
The legend c comes with a whole feast of extras (Bare in mind these are mostly gimmicks) including a sun and moon table suprisingly accurate, hunting and fishing table, calendar and a calculator!
more useful extras are the proximity alarm useful when trekking and daydreaming saves over shooting your destination. and a comprehensive find facility useful for petrol stations shops etc,
On the down...
