life in Cartoon World and sick and tired of reporting to work at the Comic Strip Studio every day with co-workers Wally, Billy Bear, Randy Rabbit, and Bonita. When Odie accidentally drops his bone through a patch in the screen that separates the realm of Cartoon World from the Real World, Garfield impulsively decides to dive headlong into the land of hot dog vendors with little regard for his girlfriend Arlene or owner Jon. Followed by the ever-bumbling Odie, Garfield's initial excitement quickly dims at the prospect of dumpster diving for food scraps and spending the night in an old leaky building. What's more, the neighborhood cats don't believe he's the real Garfield from the funny papers and Garfield knows that now that he's entered the real world, he can never return to Cartoon World. When the local newspaper declares its intention to replace the Garfield comic strip for good, Garfield realizes the enormity of his mistake and begs his Cartoon World co-workers to somehow find a way to bring him and Odie back to Cartoon World before their strip is permanently cancelled. This completely CGI animated full-lengthGarfieldmovie is a marked departure from the previous two live-action CGI animated movies (Garfield the MovieandGarfield--A Tale of Two Kitties) and has a distinctly unique look that utilizes three-dimensional character modeling against a seemingly flat background that looks like good video game graphics crossed with a colorful comic strip that's somehow been inflated. Advantages Mildly entertaining family movie Disadvantages Could have been *SO* much better!
....
~ ~ So did the computer generated image of Garfield live up to my expectations, and was he as funny as his cartoon counterpart? Well yeah, I have to admit that the movie raised quite a few laughs from myself and the family, but I also have to admit to being just a little disappointed at the same time. First off, Garfield is not wholly a cartoon. The only cartoon character is Garfield himself, whose voice-over is supplied by the brilliant comedy actor Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, etc, etc) who seemingly agreed to the part mostly because he was always a huge fan of Garfield himself. Director Peter Hewitt got this part right at least, as Murray gets the voice of Garfield down pat.
My biggest crib however is that Garfield is the ONLY animal in the movie that is computer generated. Odie the dog is a real dog whose main claim to fame...

Advantages For those who like all things cat and children Disadvantages Doens't hold your attention
...in a river. Prince ends up in London while Garfield ends up in Carlisle in a strange turn of events. The farm yard animals work out that Garfield isn't Prince but to save the estate they pretend until the real Prince can be found.
Of course Garfield wreaks his normal havoc in this beautiful castle while Prince gets his first taste of Lasagne.
I'm not going to spoil the ending for you so you'll just have to rent it.
Overall this is a light hearted children's film and not too bad for adults who are young at heart. There are some humerous activities in the film to give you a giggle.
I would say it's not as good as the first one and is totally unrealistic but then how realistic is a talking cat! The thing with the Garfield movies is that I don't find them as funny as the old comic book that used to be published. Film makers seem...

Advantages Garfield makes the only laughs of the film Disadvantages The rest of the performances are wooden
...How can I go about reviewing a film that was not really intended for my viewing, but for those who can't even get into a PG13 yet? The sequel to the original Garfield movie happened to fall into my possession because my mother got it as a Christmas present. Admittedly, when she borrowed the original film off a friend (who was borrowing it off her grandchild) I did sit down and watch it with her. Garfield created a lot of laughs so when my mum stuck the DVD into the player as something to watch over the Christmas period that should be quite innocent and easy-going I sat down to watch it with her. Now this could just be my age speaking, but the charm had definitly worn off.
For those who don't know in the movie Garfield is computer-animated, not a real cat, with the rest of the people and his surroundings actually being real life...
