Advantages: A delightful lunch or dinner meal Disadvantages: None
What could be more French than the classic Quiche Lorraine? I was inspired to begin cooking up French cuisine during my last year in college over twenty years ago, when I took a French language class, and by the arrival of a new French chef that was just starting to become popular in America, none other than Jaques Pepin. A quiche is fairly easy to make and provides a bit of elegance as a lunch or even dinner meal.

Pastry:
1 ½ cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons (¾ stick) sweet butter
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
¼ cup cold water
In a stainless steel mixing bowl, work the flour, salt, butter and shortening together until you have a course mixture. Add the water and mix into a ball. Line a 10½ inch flan ring or quiche pan and refrigerate for about an hour.

Advantages tasty and sugar free! Disadvantages none
...with an old frenchrecipe which commands that the sweetness comes from grape juice! So that's exactly what they've done - created a marvellously light and sweet tasting spread which is absolutely delicious! And contains not a grain of sugar! It has a much lighter taste than other jams, but still perfectly sweet, and it's the sort of jam that lends itself well to bread and jam. Another source of fun from my friends - they think I'm on rations!

Advantages Tastes great, has a 'rapid' 1hr programme Disadvantages Long cooking times for lighter, fluffier bread
...’ white bread. Takes about 3 hours + depending on your exact choice of loaf size/colour etc.
2. FRENCH
The simplest of recipes with only 4 ingredients makes French style bread. Lighter texture and crispy crust.
3. WHOLE-WHEAT
Whole-wheat flour is heavier and makes a denser loaf. This programme pre-heats the ingredients and lets the dough rise a little longer
4. SWEET
For loafs with fruit, nuts, chocolate chips etc. It beeps during the second kneading process telling you when to add these extra ingredients
5. SUPER RAPID (750G)
Not to be confused with Rapid (I’ll explain later) Produces bread in under one hour as long as you have the correct ingredients i.e. fast acting yeast. Suitable for a 750g loaf
6. SUPER RAPID (1KG)
As programme 5 but for a 1kg loaf
7. QUICK
A programme for batter rather than dough, using baking soda...
