Cheap filter to protect and block UV rays
Review of Quantaray Skylight 1A - filter - skylight - 58 mm by greekmiss

Advantages: Does the job it's meant to do
Disadvantages: Nothing really.

This is another one of the cheaper lenses that works great without the higher prices of large name brands. No need to spend an extra $10-30 for a name brand as this Skylight filter does an equally good job. It's main purpose is to protect your lens you add it to and helps reduce UV rays allowing for bluer skies and a bit clearer photos in your pictures. I do not use this filter very often because I gain so much more from filters such as Enhancing, ... Read review

Amazing filter that is a must have
Review of Tiffen filter - circular polarizer - 58 mm by greekmiss

Advantages: it's claims to saturate with color and reduce reflections are true
Disadvantages: none!

I purchased this Circular Polarizer filter to enhance my pictures. I take a lot of pictures of scenery, wildlife and of course family and friends and this filter helps deepen the skies blue color, reduce reflections on non-metallic surfaces such as windows, and enhances the saturation of colors in general. I also add on an Enhancing filter to further saturate the colors and enhance pictures of outdoors but on it's own this filter does a more than ...
...exposure compensation by 1 or 2 f stops which results in much crisper pictures. Otherwise the filters do an amazing job in enhancing the picture with dramatic effects. Your pictures end up looking like those in magazines! This filter is 58mm in diameter and I use it on both my Canon 15-55mm lens and my Canon 75-300mm lens. Both result with clear crisp pictures that are saturated with color. ... Read review

Cheap polarizing filter that works just as good
Review of Quantaray filter - polarizer - 58 mm by greekmiss

Advantages: Good quality with same features as more expensive filters
Disadvantages: Nothing really...

...cost up to $60. Quantaray is more of a generic brand for those that don't know and provides much cheaper filters for cameras than larger brands. I use the filter on my Canon 75-300mm lens and with the Canon XTi SLR digital camera. It works quite well allowing for objects of focus that are both sitting still and moving. I will say it is difficult getting on a bird though that is flying and I have yet to capture that except for a hummingbird. The ... Read review

Good protection for an expensive lens
Review of Hoya HMC Haze UV(0) - filter - UV - 72 mm by klashar

Advantages: No loss of quality that I can determine
Disadvantages: Not cheap

I bought one of these for my 18-200mm Nikon lens and the purchase driver wasn't that I wanted a UV filter, but that I wanted to protect the lens from scratches. I had a scarey moment not so long ago when I discovered sand in-between the lens and the lens cap after a recent vacation, 'despite' all my precautions. Sand just gets everywhere. Anyway, soon as I got home, I bought a cleaning kit and this filter, and after a some careful cleaning and polishing, ...
...I feel much safer. The filter will fit on any lens with a 72mm thread not just a Nikon lens. Image Quality I have done some experiments to try and determine changes to image quality but to my untrained eye have so far spotted no differences. I tested by taking pictures of the same scene with and without the filter then scrutinised the results. I will keep testing as different scenarios present themselves e.g. particularly hot hazy days and ... Read review
