I only registered on Facebook as my best friend wanted to share some photo's she took of my wedding in New York. I registered and looked at the photo's and pretty much left it at that!!However, I then went on maternity leave and rediscovered the site as a lot of friends from work use it. I think it's great, I can keep in touch with all my work mates as we work shift we don't always get to chat at work. I also convinced the sister in law to join so we can share pic's etc as the in laws are an hours drive on the motorway. I now have an established profile, enjoy the fact I can write on any of my friends "Wall" and if I want to keep a conversation private I can just send a message. You can now also have a private conversation on their version of messenger, although this is very basic, it serves the purpose.The down side is you end up with a ton of applications you don't want, which several of your friends will send you. Some applications are slow and don't always load. As the site is huge, it can sometimes take a while to update with new messages etc. I also love the fact you can manage who can see your profile and pictures.Overall it's a huge thumbs up from me!!!! In addition to the above, The applications are a huge mix of games and quizzes, which generally invole inviting oher people to play or take part.These can get a little annoying however you can choose to ignore and accept anything you like. The privacy settings are great, you can allow everyone to see you items/profile or select friends only etc. I do feel secure using this site. I don't get any spam in my personal email from facebook as I have chosen to switch off the notifications. The notifications are all related to items sent to you or added by friends.
For example: Yesterday I added 2 pictures of my gorgeous dog, If my friends have chosed to receive update emails, they would all receive one stating I had added pictures.These are the only emails, Nothing else, no sales or marketing etc
