I joined Facebook several years ago and barely used it. All of my friends seemed to be more interested in MySpace and then inexplicably, within the past 6 months or so, there seems to have been a mass migration to Facebook and now my friends and I use Facebook primarily. I have to say that my favorite part about Facebook isn't the social networking but the applications and games that you can install/add on to your profile. They have everything from sports betting to playing vampire, to word games, to applications that claim to donate money to charity as you use them. There are definitely a lot of kinks that Facebook (and/or the people who write Facebook applications) still needs to work out ... I seem to get that "sorry we're still working out some kinks" error page frequently which is a huge source of annoyance for me.

Another plus to Facebook, which I will be looking forward to taking advantage of, is the advertising opportunities. Their ads are a lot more unobtrusive than MySpace's and I think they're more accessible to small businesses, or so it seems, than on MySpace. I'm planning to start a small business and Facebook is definitely part of my marketing strategy.

On the downside, I find it rather hard to navigate and counterintuitive. There's no straightforward, easy way for you or your friends to access your photo albums and add pictures and your "profile" pictures are accessed completely separately from your regular album pictures. It's also cumbersome to adjust your privacy settings for individual applications so they don't all show up in your news feed and your friends don't have to read about every little action you take in every application you have installed. Navigating Facebook definitely requires patience so if that's not one of your virtues, you may not have a great user-experience.
