Manufacturer's product description
The ENTIA Serial WAN Communications Controller is an intelligent PCI compliant peripheral that uses an on-board PowerPC CPU and memory to locally execute all communications protocols. This approach offloads the host CPU from low-level tasks thus preserving capacity for other applications to run concurrently and to facilitate remote administration and management. The serial port on the ENTIA Serial WAN Communications Controller can operate as a single, unchannelized data port at speeds between 56K and T1 (1.544 Mbps), or E1 (2.048 Mbps) or at any speeds in between. The port can operate in DTE or DCE mode, and it is supplied with a DTE-type connector. In DCE mode the interface generates all necessary clock signals. The serial port automatically detects the appropriate physical interfaces, thereby easing configuration. A number of synchronous SDLC/HDLC, data link layer protocols are supported via the on-board process.
