I purchased the Nikon D40 in June of 2007. It is by far the most used camera in my fleet. Lightweight - yet perfectly capable of capturing anything! I use it for portraits, wedding photography, candids, landscapes, macro - name it. The built in flash works in a pinch, but I prefer the SB-600 Speedlight attached for anything that requires a flash. This is a great camera for the price. It is not by any means a professional camera, but it is perfect for a photo enthusiast / ameatur photographer. The kit lens is acceptable, but it is cheap and I would recommend that anyone wanting to take serious pictures, aspiring to be a professional or entering contests should spend the money to upgrade it right away. I have only one complaint: in very low light situations, it is hard to get a high quality picture without a tripod.
