I can shoot at much slower speeds without a tripod, maybe 2 f-stops. I rarely require a tripod unless it is night or studio. I am a fine artist who uses the Rebel XTI to shoot photographs of my large scale paintings. The color and overall contrast of each image is superb. I then upload the images into photoshop and make size adjustments and rarely have to make color corrections. It is a great camera and worth every penny.
