Advantages: Easy to use, well constructed Disadvantages: Little additional features from D40x
...its predecessor, the new entry-level Nikon D60 DSLR camera is virtually identical to the D40x model that it replaces. The D60 has the same external design, 10.2 megapixel sensor, ISO range of 100 to 3200, 3 point auto-focus system, 3D Colour Matrix Metering II, 3fps continuous shooting speed and 2.5 inch LCD screen as the D40x. All of the important changes are therefore internal. Nikon have implemented the same EXPEED image processing engine that ... ...finds out if the new Nikon D60 is worth considering.
Ease of Use
When you first take the Nikon D60 out of its box, you can literally feel why this digital SLR is so cheap. Its all-plastic construction makes it very light, especially if you have used a more expensive DSLR before. The same is true of the supplied 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR kit lens, which again is made entirely of plastic, although it is a little more substantial than the standard 18-55mm, ...

...a beautiful photo.
Using the Canon Xti is a dream. It has a full selection of modes, so you can set it to a full automatic mode if you don't know what you're doing, or you can put it to a full manual mode if you do. Several other modes in between full-auto and full manual allow you to choose just an F-stop or aperture and let the camera select the optimal other settings.
The camera works with a variety of lenses, and has image quality. The images ... ...monitor and are perfectly crisp and in-focus. The best thing about this camera is how it works in the field. I photograph mostly nature, mammals, birds, and landscapes, which means my camera has to be very durable. I've dropped it. I've used it in humid, hot, dusty conditions in Brazil. The camera still works perfectly. Additionally, I once forgot the charger for the camera, but it worked so long that I didn't even need the charger. I was able to ...

The Nikon D40x is an inexpensive but high quality 10 megapixel entry level digital SLR aimed at people moving up from compacts or super zoom cameras. If you have no lenses that you ... ...camera for you.
The Nikon D40x is my first digital SLR and the fourth digital camera that I have owned. I'd call myself an ambitioned amateur photographer and having two small kids, we probably shoot 50-200 photos a week. I also did a fair bit of photography with older analogue cameras.
To help me decide which camera to buy I read reviews on 'Steve's Digicams', Ken Rockwell's site, 'dpreview.com' and also 'Ciao.co.uk'. In the end I narrowed my ...

Advantages: Inexpensive, great pictures, light Disadvantages: 6MP, only AFS lenses, not many hard buttons.
The Nikon D40 is an entry level SLR camera now replaced by the Nikon D40x orginally competing with models such as the Pentax K100D and Canon Rebel Xti.
Pentax have since released the Canon Rebel Xsi , Pentax the K100D Super and Nikon the D40x.
I wrote an extensive review of the Nikon D40x on Ciao.com and suggest you read that and bear in mind these differences between the two cameras.
Differences between the Nikon D40 and Nikon D40x
1) ... ...flash shutter speed of the Nikon D40x is 1/200 compared to 1/500 in the D40.
4) Continuous shutter speed is 2.8 fps/ instead of 3fps in the Nikon D40x.
That's pretty much it.
Which to go for Nikon D40 or Nikon D40x ?
If you can live with 6MP which will still print perfectly good photos on A4 then go for the D40. Why? You will save a fair bit of money that you can then invest in a bigger lens. e.g. 18-135mm. You can currently save around ...
