Advantages: a fabulous singer
Disadvantages: not so successful in recent times

Diana Ross was born in March 1944. She was born Diane Ernestine Earle Ross. She was the most successful female artist in the 70s and 80s in the rock genre. During her career as part of The Supremes and a solo singer Ross has sold over 100 million records to date. As a youngster Ross lived in Detroit and became friends with Smokey Robinson. At the age of 15 she started her music career as part of a quartet of friends called The Primettes which was ...
...The group was eventually renamed Diana Ross and the Supremes to evidence Ross' contribution to the group's success. This caused some rift in the group which was evidenced in later years... Motown persuaded Ross to go solo in 1968 and by November 1969 it was confirmed that she had officially left the Supremes to go solo. Her first solo release was "Reach Out and Touch" which reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and her second single which was ... Read review

Rediscovering Diana Ross
Review of Diana Ross by promos_123

Advantages: For whom still loving the '70s.
Disadvantages: This is beat of the past.

...Earle Ross, better known as Diana Ross, has established itself as an artist versatile and eclectic, able to assert his talent both in music film. Born and raised in Detroit, has just fifteen years when he joined a quartet called the canoro Primett, who then will be reduced to three members and will be renamed the Supremes. In 1963, put under contract by Motown, the Supremes climb the rankings and American state among the most popular names in black ...
...the trio (no coincidence renamed Diana Ross & the Supremes), this girl from Detroit is imposed for its warm and velvety voice, but both have great power. The fulminant climbing the success of the Supremes (and the consequent rivalry between some members of the group) will be the source of inspiration, years later, the musical drama Dreamgirls and the film version of the same name. In 1969, Diana Ross decided to leave the Supremes and to undertake ... Read review

The Very Best Of Diana Ross
Review of Diana/Lady Sings The Blues/The Boss - Diana Ross by IanPhillips taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages These are three of Diana Ross' best albums
Disadvantages NONE!

...Lady Sings The Blues premiered to an eager, anticipating audience in October 1972. The public flocked in droves to the cinemas to see this much-hyped film, whilst critics watched intensley and eagerly sharpened their pencils. Soul singer and Motown legend, Diana Ross controversially took the role of the tortured Jazz legend, Billie Holiday and deservedly won wide critical acclaim for her harrowing and riviting performance in the film which subsequently gained her an oscar nomination (though Diana sadly lost out to Liza Minnelli for Cabaret - people claimed this was down to Berry Gordy's over-kill campaign to get her to win where Berry sent various extravagent gifts to members of the comittee which was merely perceived as a ploy to get her to win). Critics were instantly silenced on hearing the movies quintessential and divine... Read review

Diana Ross' Magnificent Solo Debut
Review of Diana Ross [Remastered] - Diana Ross by IanPhillips taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages The exalting soul classic, Ain't No Mountain High Enough
Disadvantages None!

...On the 15 January, 1970 at the prestigous Las Vegas Frontier Hotel, Diana Ross played her final concert with The Supremes - who remain the worlds biggest female vocal group of all time. At Ross' fawell concert she introduced her replacement Jean Terrell up on stage. The media then inevitably hyped up supposed competition between Diana Ross the solo star and The "New" Supremes. Indeed Ross opened up her first solo engagement with the words "Good evening ladies and gentleman and welcome to the lets see if Diana Ross can make it on her own show". She need not have worried! Diana Ross' solo career had been initially planned as far back as 1966 and rumours had been circulating in the media for quite some time about her imminent departure from the group. In 1969, when still offically a supreme, Ross recorded four tracks with Bonie... Read review

Possibly Diana Ross's Best Studio Albums
Review of Diana/The Boss - Diana Ross by IanPhillips taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Every track is a WINNER!
Disadvantages None!

...By the end of the 1970's Diana Ross' recording career was back on shaky ground. Her studio albums, the excellent Baby It's Me (1977) and the hodge podge production of Ross (1978) had sold disappointingly. Not only that but her third silver screen venture The Wiz (1978) performed badly at the Box Office and became something of an embarassing fiasco to all concerned, not least to Ross who was virtually ridiculed by critics. Diana Ross always had that drive, determination and uncanny ability to bounce back no matter what set back her career endured (and she certainly has had more than her fair share of set-backs, especially in more recent years). At the fall of 1979 she wisely focused her attention on fixing her flagging recording career. As it stood, she hadn't had a major chart hit since 1976 with the exciting, tempo-shifting Disco...
