I have owned my Dell Inspiron 1720 for 6 months, and I have to say I am really happy and pleased with this laptop. It has all the bells and whistles you could want in a laptop. The laptop is one of the bigger ones, as it is a "17" screen, and it can be a little hard to lug around at times. I take mine to work with me all the time. I purchased the 1720 due to the size of the screen & I have no regrets. It has a beautiful picture and when watching a DVD it was clearer than my TV. The sound could have been better but considering this is a computer and not a sound system it was ok. I am still learning my way around on it and everyday is a learning experience as it is Windows Vista. I would definately recommend this to anyone who is interested in a laptop.

This is the best laptop I have owned to date. It is incredibly fast and works extremely well with wireless internet. It's also very easy to use The picture is amazing and I love watching movies on it. Unfortunately the DVD drive in my computer is very temperamental. I've had the computer over a year and now it plays cds or dvds on select days and occasions. I'm not sure why it does this, and every time it refuses to register a dvd or cd in the drive ...
...next day it will magically work again. That's the only problem I have with the computer and it's definitely not enough of an issue for me to dislike the product. I'll put up with it because I don't watch many dvds on it now that I have a home dvd player. ... Read review

I bought my own Dell inspiron 1720 7-8 months ago and I must say, I LOVE it. My brother also has a Dell Inspiron 9400. Our whole family loves Dell. It has an elegant and fast look, despite the large housing. It is very strong, since it is made from high quality aluminium. ...slow Vista installed on it. Dell has recently started to sell their computers with linux distributions (free), which I think is again a bonus for Dell. I love it when such an international company promotes free software. The size of the 17 inch screen, makes the laptop a bit heavy, 8.70 pounds. The biggest disadvantage for me is the touchpad. ...Bought last October I have had great pleasure in using the Dell Inspiron 1720. It is designed to be a high end entertainment PC and has a large 17" High definition LCD display to show. It certainly looks impressive. You can even customise the colour of the lid to your preference. On the inside it is pretty good too. The standard specification now being a 1.8Ghz processor, 2Gb RAM and Nvidea graphic card for the 1720 model. It can be used for gaming but if you are a serious gamer than I would recommend buying through Dell and upgrading to a 2Ghz processor, 3Gb RAM and 8800GT+ Nvidea graphics card. The major disadvantage of the laptop being the portablity of the laptop as it has a 17" it is very large and heavy, difficult to carry long distances. ...I've used this laptop for a few months now and I'm loving it every second. The speakers sound better than any other average laptop speakers with a built in subwoofer which amazes as it reli has a difference. The build quality is top notch. The screen is excellent quality. The colours are precise and clear. There is some light leakage at the bottom of the screen. This is due to Samsung lcds that dell is using. They were using Sonys previously but nonetheless, its still a great screen to have. The bluetooth and wireless works very well. Good coverage. There is also another thing that I love about this laptop, the 6 USB2.0 ports provided. I've completely put away my USB hubs for good.
