...and they paid their due battling it out with the Boston Celtics in trying to come out of the East. They came real close in the 1987 with then forward Adrian Dantley, who they had gotten from a trade with the Utah Jazz. Dantley would help them to the Eastern Conference finals in which they would lose a seven game heart breaking. Game five of the series is in the NBA highlight drill with Larry Bird picking up an Isaiah throw pass for the a late key steal that gave them victory in the critical game five. The Pistons would push the game to a seventh game which ended in a lot of controversy. The Celtics won but there were some nasty statements made by the Detroit players about certain Boston players being overrated because of skin colour. ...bowls in the decade with players like Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Roger Craig, Ronny Lott, Jerry Rice and the stewardship of head coach Steve Walsh. The Cowboy's star players had gotten older and the franchise was also going through new ownership. The Cowboys were sold in 1988 to Dallas Oilman Jerry Jones who came in and began to make some tough decisions. Long time head coach Tom Landry was led go and Jones hired from the college rank, the University of Miami football coach Jimmy Johnson. He himself became the General Manager of the franchise in 1989. The Glory days are back Under Jerry Jones and head coach Jimmy Johnson the Cowboys drafted well, bringing in Troy Aikman from UCLA, Emmitt Smith from the University of Florida and the "playermaker"Michael Ervin from the University of Miami.
