...2004, I bought Hubby a Tivo for Christmas. I wasn't sure if he would like it or not, because he's not one to like paying a monthly fee. But wow, do we love having it. It's the coolest thing ever! Ok, maybe not the coolest, but very helpful. Basically, Tivo is a Digital Video Recorder or "DVR". The cable and satellite tv companies have come out with their own DVR's. But after having the Dish Network DVR on another TV, we both agree that it's not Tivo...not ...
...just look to see what TiVo recorded! It'll even "learn" what you enjoy (you get to rate shows using the thumbs up/down buttons on the remote control) and will record shows that it thinks you will like. TiVo does get a little confused if more than one person is rating the shows, because Hubby and I have different tastes and it thinks we're one person. We got this DVR when we got DirecTV. It is so great to be able to record your favorite TV shows without having to mess with a VCR. You can program it to record multiple shows at different times and days. You get a lot of options when you set something to record such as not recording re-runs. You can pause and rewind live tv and you can fast forward through commercials when you have recorded a show. The memory is huge so you have plenty of space. ...

We have had our DVR for a few months. We have both cable and Direct TV and used mostly cable. We originally got the Direct TV for the NFL package. When we went to HD we decided to go with the HD DVR. I can't believe it took me so long to try the DVR. I absolutely love it. It is so easy to set programs to record and you can actually tape 2 programs at the same time. It is so nice to be able to easily set the DVR to record and not have to a VCR tape ...

We were told we could only get 1 HD DVR, from Direct TV, in a six month period, but we could buy the HD DVR at a store and have Direct TV come out and hook it up. We did and now have 3 HD DVR's.
