Advantages: good quality sound Disadvantages: price
recently bought the Panasonic DVD-S54KS DVD player and I am totally satisfied with the work that you do in all my upconversion DVD movies. This player plays everything down and the picture quality is great on my 42 "LCD HDTV Philips.
The Panasonic DVD-S54KS DVD player plays the following disc formats: DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-rw1, DVD-R (including double layer), DVD-R (including double layer), DVD-RW, CD, CD - R / RW, WMA, MP3, JPEG, MPEG4 and Div-X.

It has all the features you'd expect, WMA decoding, MP3 and it's a well recognised brand name so you don't have to worry about warranties.
It has a parental lock out function too, so you stop the kids watching things you don't want them to.

Advantages: Pratically indestructible, Also Very good volume and picture texture! Disadvantages: NONE!
...shows me this bute (The Panasonic S53S). I wasnt really a electronic expert at that time, so i just bought it thinking that there could be no harm done. When I rented a movie to test out my new dvd player for the first time, I slipped the dvd in. Wallaah! The didn't make a noise. So while I am watching the movie, I notice that the volume and sound texture is diffrent and that the picture detail is a lot better than my old one. This Thing could sure ... ...movie, I accidentaly pushed it off the top of my TV screen and a dvd was stuck down in the back. Out came the screw-driver, I came to the conclusion that the dvd player was hopeless..so i just yanked off the cover with my driver.I aquired the dvd alright, When i plugged the dvd player back in (It had sustained quite a lot of damage) i popped in a movie thinking it was just broken....Well, two hours later I was amazed that i had just watched a whole ...

Advantages: MP3 CDR CDW compatibility, reads scratched CDs, reasonably priced Disadvantages: Can't see name of MP3 files
This is for the new Panasonic RV31. It's a great machine especially for the money. All the bells and whistles. You don't need DTS decoder etc... since your home theatre receiver will have one. Anyways, it already sound good just as is, if using any pair of good speakers- even thru a regular stereo! The MP3 format is great as it doubles as my CD/MP3 player as well as DVD. So Audio and video together in one unit-space saver. I pop in a CDR with 150 ... ...for discs. The pain is that you don't know what songs are what on when playing back MP3s as it doesn't list the name of the songs. One good thing about this machine is it will read every conceiveable type of disc whether scratched or not. Many other machines either skip or freeze when it's unable to read the data. So thumbs up for Panasonic. Be careful not to buy a cheap DVD player as you will run into these problems. Component out is a nice feature. ...

Advantages: Fast access, Great folder view Ciema like picture Disadvantages: Only 2 Channel Audio.
I happened to purchase this Panasonic S29 DVD player for Rs.4000.00, believing it to be a 5.1 channel Dolby/DTS machine. But it is not 5.1 but 2.0. I contacted my dealer to replace this one with an equivalent thing with 5.1 Channel analog out compatible with the my receiver. It took him a couple of days to get other brands. He offered me LG and KY. In the meantime I viewed a couple of movies on this one. It wonderfully removed the bands from cinemascope ... ...symbol on screen. It has got 6-7 modes of cinemascope viewing. The KY model was simply trash as its MP3 loading was very slow and folder view was pathetic with only 5 charecters of file name on display. What to say of picture quality, it used to what should I call-simply deteriorate as I zoomed to get rid of the bands. It was very prominet in action scenes. I discarded this one outright.
Next was LG8556. Its folder view was ok but not as fast and ...
