I have had directv for many years. I got my original DVR as a Tivo for directv. I was very dissappointed that I could not get the tivo for my bedroom dvrs. I gave in and got the directv dvr and was very dissappointed at first but gradually got used to it. My box has a small font remote that is hard for my 40yr old eyes to see but my son's has a bigger lettering. The rmote and usage is no where near as user friendly as the TIVO but as I get used to ... ...deleting old shows takes forever as each must be deleted one at a time. It does make it easier to NOT delete shows accidently. Also the remote is less sensitive and there is no skip forward like the remote for the tivo. As far as usage, we had a Dish network DVR for a short period and I was so frustrated that I calle dthem and told them to send me a box to remove thier equiptment. ...

Advantages: Very easy to use, records 2 shows at the same time, rewind live shows Disadvantages: Recorded program can only be watched on the DVR it is recorded on.
We have had our DVR for a few months. We have both cable and Direct TV and used mostly cable. We originally got the Direct TV for the NFL package. When we went to HD we decided to go with the HD DVR. I can't believe it took me so long to try the DVR. I absolutely love it. It is so easy to set programs to record and you can actually tape 2 programs at the same time. It is so nice to be able to easily set the DVR to record and not have to a VCR tape ... ...additional DVR's for other rooms in the house. We were told we could only get 1 HD DVR, from Direct TV, in a six month period, but we could buy the HD DVR at a store and have Direct TV come out and hook it up. We did and now have 3 HD DVR's. The DVR also allows you to pause or rewind and program you are watching, even if you are not recording it.
