Cruel Intentions / Cruel Intentions 2 (DVD)
Cruel IntentionsThis modern-day teen update ofLes Liaisons Dangereusessuffered at the ... more
hands of both critics and moviegoers thanks to its sumptuous ad campaign, which hyped the film as an arch, highly sexual, faux-serious drama (not unlike the successful, Oscar-nominatedDangerous Liaisons). In fact, this intermittently successful sudser plays like high comedy for its first two-thirds, as its two evil heroes, rich stepsiblings Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe), blithely ruin lives and reputations with hearts as black as coal. Kathryn wants revenge on a boyfriend who dumped her, so she befriends his new intended, the gawky Cecile (Selma Blair), and gets Sebastian to deflower the innocent virgin. The meat of the game, though, lies in Sebastian's seduction of good girl Annette (a down-to-earth Reese Witherspoon), who's written a nationally published essay entitled "Why I Choose to Wait." If he fails, Kathryn gets his precious vintage convertible; if he wins, he gets Kathryn--in the sack. When the movie sticks to the merry ruination of Kathryn and Sebastian's pawns, it's highly enjoyable: Gellar in particular is a two-faced manipulator extraordinaire, and Phillippe, usually a black hole, manages some fun as a hipster Eurotrash stud. Most pleasantly surprising of all is Witherspoon, who puts a remarkably self-assured spin on a character usually considered vulnerable and tortured (see Michelle Pfeiffer inDangerous Liaisons). Unfortunately, writer-director Roger Kumble undermines everything he's built up with a false ending that's true to neither the reconceived characters nor the original story--revenge is a dish best served cold, not cooked up with unnecessary plot twists.--Mark EnglehartCruel Intentions 2There's a reason you haven't heard of this straight-to-video "sequel" to the seamy teen romp that had Ryan Phillippe baring his polished behind: it's twice as bad as the first one and is only worth a look to see just how embarrassing it can get. Writer-director Roger Kumble's original was no classic, Lord knows, but at least the game, nubile cast knew how to smack its lips--his follow-up (which, in tamer form, was to be the pilot for a proposed series calledManchester Prep) can't even pout properly. Phillippe's Sebastian character (here played by a bland, doughy Robin Dunne) is carted back out to be reintroduced to scheming stepsister Kathryn, enacted by a woefully unsexy Amy Adams (Sarah Michelle Gellar played Sebastian's ripe cousin in the first film). The two don't hit it off, and Sebastian--far more sentimental than his big-screen counterpart--immediately decides he's all for love, in the form of pristine deb Danielle (Sarah Thompson). It all amounts to a ponderously cartoonish nothing, including a twist ending that renders everything proceeding it completely incomprehensible. Kumble has the film spouting homilies on love and self-esteem, then randomly throws in bare breasts; it's like a hornySaved by the Bell, without the kick or pacing of good camp.--Steve Wiecking

Advantages: beautiful scenery, great cast, great soundtrack
Disadvantages: storyline is interesting but a little unbelievable
This movie is a must see and own for anyone who has ever fallen victim to the evils and power of money!
Plot: Spoiled rich kids Sebastion and Kathryn are a duo of of sociopathic step siblings left home alone for the summer. After realizing that the author of a nationally published article about sexual abstinence, Anette Hargrove, has moved in temporarily with Sebation's aunt and will be a classmate during the upcoming school year. The immoral pair ... ...Kathryn will grant Sebastion his sexual fantasy.
Under Kathryn's tight reign but loose lead, Sebastion sets about his quest to win over Anette. At first presenting her with his snobbish manipulation, he soon realizes that Anette is a genuinely good and warm spirit, and falls in love with her. Kathryn realizes that if Sebastion has any qualm of conscience she will soon lose the bet and her control over him. This leads to a climatic series of events ...

Advantages: a list cast, keeps you intrested
Disadvantages: horrible ending
A sexy movie about money and power. The movie is based on the plot that Sebastian and his Step-sister Karthryn, who are very wealthy and each a little devious in their own way. They make a bet that Sebastian is to try and take down Cecile, the woman her ex left her for who is completely naive, by taking her virginity. But he says he wants to up the stakes and bets he can get the Headmasters daughter who has vowed virginity until marriage to sleep ... ...with Kathryn, who he has lusted after since the marriage of their parents. If he fails she gets his car. What Sebastian doesn't expect is to fall for Annette and it becomes more than just a game to him. With a cast full of A list actors it provides enough entertainment to watch the whole movie and not feel like you have completely wasted your time. This movie is full of sex, money and power. ...

Cruel Intentions
Review of Cruel Intentions by

Advantages: nice cast, sexy
Disadvantages: ending bad
This movie has a sexy, original plot and a nice cast. Its nice too to watch it know, knowing that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were wed to each other a while back. You go through a range of emotions with this movie and are left with one that is indescribable. Basically, the movie is about a stepbrother and stepsister who have sexual feelings for each other. The stepsister is a bit of a tease, but she secretly wants her stepbrother. She offers ... ...their headmaster's daughter and a virgin. If he does this, then Kathryn (Gellar) will sleep with him. Emotions get tangled and everything does not go as planned.
I was not happy with the ending to this movie. However, overall the movie was a good one. A somewhat perverted plot, but still a nice movie to watch. I would recommend it. ...

Cruel Film
Review of Cruel Intentions by
Mchavez11
Advantages: Sexy scenes
Disadvantages: Story, Plot, Bad acting
Cruel intentions is a story of a step siblings who makes some kind of a bet devirginizing a mentally autistic girl. Sarah Gellar as Kathryn plays the role of the evil sister while Ryan Phillippe plays the step brother. Kathryn asked Ryan to persuade Resee Witherspoon to give up her virginity to him, and if he doesn't win, Kathryn gets his Jaguar sports car roadster, but if he wins, Kat will sleep with ryan. That bland and simple.
First and foremost, ... ...in this awful waste of time movie. Yes I got it, the intentions was so cruel, but the cinematography, the acting, the plot is so bad that it made me want to smash my telly. This particular film is so hollywood manufactured. Obviously, there's an absence of deep thinking in directing and finishing this movie. For me, this flick was made to hype up the artless artist that heads this suspense or whatever they call this film..teeny bopper thriller. I ...

Cruel Intentions--. different genre
Review of Cruel Intentions by
hotmoney
Advantages: cast was good
Disadvantages: boring on the first part of the story
MY EXPERIENCE, OPINION, RECOMMENDATION:
I first watched it in a VHS that I borrowed in a Video Shop when I'm still a high school student. Until now I'm still looking for a copy of it but I can't find one. The cast were great, I'm a big fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar since Buffy, Ryan Phillipe was really cute, this is the first time I've seen him,but I don't find Reese Witherspoon pretty in this movie because I think she's little bit fat in here. At ... ...of the movie until the end I realized that the story was good. It's just unrealistic because I don't think that might happen in reality. But still I think the cast really bring the movie well, the secondary was the story that you'll just recognize in the middle of the story because at first it was boring but you'll find out soon enough that this is a good movie after all. I recommend it to people who like to watched a different kind of movie, mysterious ...

Advantages nice film
Disadvantages not as good as first one
...I was sorting out all my DVDs that I have not yet watched yesterday, and vowed to watch them all before Christmas. So I started on the right track by watching one last night, this was Cruel Intentions 2.
THE PLOT
This film is set before the first Cruel Intentions. A young guy called Sebastian, who is played by Robin Dunne has to go and live with his father, stepmother and step sister Kathryn, who is played by Amy Adams. When he arrives he realizes that his stepmother is loaded and he is going to be living in her mansion and on top of that Kathryn and her stepmother are very stuck up and snobby.
Sebastian has to start a new school with Kathryn, where all the students are rich and snobby, but Sebastian manages to fall for the only plain Jane in the school, who just happens to be the headmaster's daughter. But for those of you...

Advantages would be ok if you had not seen the orginial
Disadvantages predictable, boring
...I have just finished watching Cruel Intention two, the sequel to Cruel Intentions. I thought that the first one was excellent, and therefore was looking forward to the sequel. however I was very disappointed.
It is set before cruel intentions one which is confusing and has completly different characters but with the same names as the first! This proves to be extremely confusing. The plot basically follows the first film, with everything happenign just a little differently. In some films, i.e. scream and the sequels, this works very well, making the films amusing. In this film , however it just makes it more confusing for the viewer.
The plot sees Sebastian arriving at his dads house in new york, to meet his 'goody two-shoes' step sister (Catherine), who turns out to be nasty and his stepmum. they go to school togetehr...
