Chaparral RIO eXp R3400

The RIO Serial ATA solution from Chaparral gives customers more choices on where and how to store different classes of data because it delivers bulk SATA storage, fast FC storage, or both. The Hot Zone intelligent staging mechanism in the RAIDar PS appliance allows frequently used areas of bulk SATA storage to be auto­matically remapped to faster FC storage. This feature delivers enhanced read/write perfor­mance for frequently accessed data. SATA is perfect as a repository for nontransactional on-line information. When RIO SATA is used with Chaparral's Virtual Tape Library (VTL) appliance, it increases the speed and reliability of existing third party backup applications by using inexpensive SATA disks to emulate industry standard tape libraries. Chaparral's VTL appliance backs up and restores data from a RIO SATA-based virtual tape at ultra high speeds, and maximizes reliability by remov­ing physical tape media errors and robotic mechanical failures. For offsite or long term requirements the VTL appliance will migrate data to tape drives and/or automated tape libraries.
