Manufacturer's product description
Acceding to generous requests from professional installers and DJs worldwide, intuitive Cerwin-Vega engineers have produced the best popular format dual 15" 3-way system available in its price range. The V-253 is a 3-way system with two 15" woofers, a 1" exit compression driver, and a bi-morph driver with less distortion above 12kHz than typical small-format compression drivers. Cerwin-Vega has pushed the dual 15" format performance envelope beyond any known boundaries. This embodiment yields near-horn sensitivity (106dB 1w/1m), power output (134dB), and deep bass (30-60Hz octave) required for serious disco applications. Performance such as this can only be approached by complex systems at perhaps two to four times the cost and size. Unlike many of its competitors, Cerwin-Vega designs and manufactures its own transducers. Innovative woofer technology used in the V-253 includes a proprietary voice coil former, exhibiting all the advantages of metal yet without the pesky eddy currents, which reduce efficiency. The 15" woofers used in the V-253 feature extremely fast transient response. A low-mass cone and voice coil (in a 1.6 Tesla gap) provides clean, quick, and accurate bass. Cerwin-Vega's Direct radiating venting optimizes the output of low frequency energy towards the listener. It also allows for placement of the cabinet against a wall for cramped listening environments For mid-high frequencies, the 1" exit compression driver provides high power handling with a 10 to 1 compression ratio resulting in minimal power compression and less distortion. The controlled-directivity 1" exit horn has a moderate flare cutoff to minimize air nonlinearity at high power levels. In addition, rear loading of the horn port further eliminates the possibility of intermodulation distortion.
