The Samsung SGH T509 Mobile Phone is one great phone. I use this phone as my back up phone whenever I do something like take my Sidekick3 swimming. It has many great features and is a great size (super slim and lightweight).
Most of the Features you have come to know and love on most cell phones are there, including a Voice Recorder/Memo; Phone with Call Records; T-zones (t-mobile service only); IM - Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, MSN; Text (Picture) Messaging; ... ...Timer & Stopwatch; Phone Book and Phone Settings function. Note: This phone does not accept email and the internet is a little lacking in good usability - I avoid it at all costs.

I think that this is a very solid phone. It has good media capabilities, a decent web browser, and good phone features. The basic stuff is great on this phone. It has the wide screen full QWERTY keyboard on the touch screen and you can switch it to vertical mode where it shows a full keyboard in alphabetical order, or it can detect your hand writing(I dont use that). It would have been nice to include a T9 feature for people who are used to that. ... ...2.0 megapixel point and shoot camera which is a very basic camera you can upload pictures you take to Myspace or photo bucket. Media is decent on this phone. It uses a regular headphone jack, and it has good quality music which you can transfer from your PC or you can download on the fly from the Sprint music store. ...why I use an old Samsung SGH-R220, and I've been using this for over four years now, so I think I can tell you about it.
The battery life of this phone is no issue for me since the hands-free is also a charger. However, I did take this on a business trip, and found that I didn't need to charge it up the whole week (six days, net). Of course, I didn't use it all that much, but even so I'd say the battery life of this phone is excellent. Mind you, ... ...not be able to use it all over the world.
As mentioned, this phone is extremely simple, with no bells or whistles. And yet, this phone was made advanced enough to have WAP connection (mind you, 1.1), which was considered pretty sophisticated in its day. Still, you'll probably only want this for calls and messaging since it only monophonic ring tones, and a black & (bluish) white screen. But this doesn't mean the phone is bad.
