Advantages: Price, easy installation (it can be done yourself) Disadvantages: Doesn't charge iPod, Fails to connect to stereo reliably
This device is extremely temperamental at times - at least in a 2005 Ford Taurus SE. It does not tell the stereo that an iPod is connected, consistently and will sometimes lose the connection while it is playing.
The unit also does not charge the iPod like it claims it does. I have to remember to take my iPod inside and charge it overnight or else I will be without music (other than the AM/FM stereo since I never carry CDs with me).
The unit also ... ..."shuffle" mode, you can not use the backwards track button on your stereo to go back to the beginning of the current song. Both forward and back track buttons act as a "shuffle". To go back to the beginning of the current track, you have to rewind back. Now, before anyone thinks I might have installed this myself and screwed it up. I didn't. I had a professional installation done at a local "high end" car audio place. They have checked the unit twice ...

Advantages: charges your iPod, transmission quality good Disadvantages: cumbersome to switch channels off of the defaults
I liked this device so much that after it was stolen from my car, I went out and bought a second one to replace the first. This device makes it extremely simple to listen to your iPod in the car by transmitting your music to an FM station of your choice. I definitely recommend changing the FM station default (88.1) to another channel (where there isn't a radio station broadcasting near you of course) since satellite radios and other devices that ... ...a default and if you pass by other cars that are using that station to receive something, you will get interference which is a huge annoyance. I also love that it keeps your iPod charged so you never have to worry about draining your battery power while listening to your iPod in the car (and you don't need a separate device to charge your iPod on the road).
The only complaint I have about this is that it is a little difficult to change the transmission ...

Advantages: Compact, easy setup, low cost Disadvantages: Spotty tuner, at best
I bought this unit to play my ipod tunes in our 1994 Jeep. Setup was incredibly easy (plug into lighter, plug into ipod, tune radio, tune iTrip to same station).
Reception, however, is an entirely different story. The FM tuner is exceptionally touchy and whether or not you get the signal seems entirely based upon luck. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I had to unplug the unit from both the car receptor and the ipod, reset everything ...

Advantages: Plays AND Charges multiple types of ipods, wide range of frequencies Disadvantages: You'd have to take your protective sleeve/case off before attaching
...my search ended with the Griffin Roadtrip.
The Roadtrip is a package that contains a transmitter and dock that can connect directly to your vehicle or lighter adapter to which from you can set and/or mount. The way it's contoured, is literally PERFECT for my 2006 Honda Civic for where the adapter is located. So those with the new modeled Civics this is a definite must have for the Ipod enthusiast. NOTE: Obviously the position of the outlets differ ... ...more pleased with the Griffin Roadtrip. It's a real bargain... especially if you know where to look ;-).
