I've had the camera for around eight months. I purchased this model because I wanted something more compact than an SLR, but with a longer lens than the "credit card " sized cameras. The optical zoom allows me to photograph my son on a football field, and the sports mode allows me to take continuous action photos without blur. There is a super macro mode for very close up shots, manual focus, manual aperature and shutter speed controls, along with many other photo condition modes. And for the hurried shot there is always the fully automatic mode. The photos are sharp with great color, although in low light will have a fair amount of noise. When shooting in the automatic mode under low light, action will be blurry.
