Manufacturer's product description

The EOS 20Da is the first Canon digital SLR that has been tailored to the requirements of the Astro-photographer while delivering the speed, precision and flexibility synonymous with the EOS 20D. The EOS 20Da is no ordinary camera; maintaining the key features from the EOS 20D, the EOS 20Da has been tailored to the specific requirements of the Astro-photographer. The diffuse nebula is popular among Astro-photographers for its distinct reddish color caused by the excitation of hydrogen. However, with the infrared (IR) blocking filter in front of the imaging sensor on standard digital SLR's, the reddish color is eliminated. The 20Da IR blocking filter has been modified to allow more IR light through to the sensor, recording the reddish color. The EOS 20Da delivers outstanding images with 8.2 Megapixel resolution. The DIGIC II architecture drives high speed continuous shooting with a large maximum burst and quick start-up times. The 20Da has a feature enabling easier manual focusing with a live, magnified image on the LCD monitor. An extreme high (3200 ISO) setting extends the camera's wide 100-1600 ISO speed range. Both sRGB and Adobe RGB color spaces are supported. Canon supplies the user with a full suite of Canon software solutions including Digital Photo Professional, EOS Capture, EOS Viewer Utility and PhotoStitch. Also, included is Adobe Photoshop Elements v2. EOS Capture is a remote capture and control application for when the camera is tethered to a computer. It provides automated control of the shutter release, camera controls and downloading of images to the computer. The EOS 20Da is also supplied with the AC adapter kit ACK-E2 as standard to allow the camera to be operated for long periods on AC power. The EOS 20D's USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection enables fast download of images to the computer. PictBridge compliant, the camera supports direct printing to any compatible photo printer. It takes both CF and CF-II cards, including cards of over 2GB capacity.

Disadvantages worrying about dropping/losing it :)

...to allow long exposures to be used. Canon do one for £35, or you can get a clone from e-bay for £8 (£12 with p&p and insurance). Canon themselves have produced a version of the 20D specifically for astrophotography - EOS 20Da - but it's not too hot on "normal" photography because of the altered infrared filter in front of the sensor. I couldn't think of any negatives aside from some people might worry about dropping it, or "losing" it (£1000 worth of camera remember). I have yet to have the battery die on me, but I guess I could be lucky in that I've remembered to charge it frequently. One thing I will be getting (and recommend) is another battery pack, or even the optional grip There is one thing, some of the custom functions (mirror lock up for example) do not return to default value when you've finished using them - but you can...
