Canon DC 50 Review
Review of Canon DC 50 by
vcdmusik
Advantages: Useful Features
Disadvantages: none
...better than the less expensive DC230's, but that speaks more to the DC230's fine video quality than any deficiency in the DC50.
With plenty of useful features and a surprisingly robust still-photo mode, the Canon DC50 presents both a very good home-movie DVD camcorder and a competent snapshot camera. ...

Canon HV20 review
Review of Canon HV20 by
vcdmusik
Advantages: excellent video quality
Disadvantages: Can't change white balance while shooting
...larger camcorder. Behind the lens, Canon places a 3-megapixel, 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor that captures 1,920 horizontal and 1,080 vertical pixels for either 1080i high-definition or wide-screen standard-definition video. For still images, the camera captures 2.76 megapixels (1,920x1,440) in 4:3 mode and 2.07 megapixels (1,920x1,080) in 16:9 mode. Atop the lens, Canon places its Advanced Accessory Shoe. Canon also offers the higher-capacity BP-2L14 and ... ...the HV20 on vacation.
Canon locates most of the camcorder's controls in convenient places. As usual, Canon puts four buttons below the camcorder's 2.7-inch, wide-screen LCD. To address this, Canon includes cine mode, which can be combined with 24p mode if desired and tries to achieve a film-like look by changing the color and gamma performance. Speaking of footage, we were very impressed with the video we shot with the HV20. ...

Canon Optura 300 review
Review of Canon Optura 300 by
vcdmusik
Advantages: Lightweight and compact
Disadvantages: short battery life
...the challenge of dim conditions, Canon includes Low Light, Night, and Super Night among the Optura's shooting presets. Unlike Sony's camcorders, the Optura does not have an infrared mode for shooting in the dark.
The electronic stabilization worked unexpectedly well. Compared with similar Sony models, the Optura displays less noise, especially in dim conditions, but its videos are noticeably soft, with more smearing artifacts. ...

Canon ES 410V review
Review of Canon XL1 by
vcdmusik
Advantages: Pleasing image quality
Disadvantages: add-on XLR microphones require optional adapter.
Canon makes the most of its famous optics with the XL1S, a three-CCD MiniDV camera with an interchangeable lens system. The successor to the similarly outfitted XL1, the XL1S garners attention wherever it goes with its prominent lens assembly, external color viewfinder, and grip-mounted zoom control. The uniquely designed XL1S comes standard with a 16X zoom lens, as well as a shoulder brace that, when combined with Canon's superb optical image stabilizer, ... ...buttons and control wheels, including a manual zoom ring on the lens that can conveniently override the autofocus and zoom-motor controls on both the right-handed grip and the overhead handle.
To enhance resolution, Canon has offset some pixels in the XL1S, but that technology does not improve low-light performance. ...
