There are like three tabs for this band so if this is a repost I apoligize. I do not believe I have reviewed them before. Black sabbath is one of the founding bands of hard rock and heavey metal. The band was started in 1968 in England. The origional line up was Ozzy Osbourne or vocals ( see my review on Ozzy), Tommy Iommi ( guitar), Geezer Butler ( bass guitar) and Bill Ward ( Drums). The had gone through various line up changes over the years. Most agree that you cannont copy an origional and the origional was great. They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide and mtv ranked them as the top heavey metal band of all time.
In 1979 Ozzy Osbourne was fired from the group due to drinking and drugs in excess and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. They went through various singers in the 1980's and 90's not of which were really as good as Ozzy. The origional line up did reunite in 1997 a made a concert alubm. Their song Iron man recieved a nomination decades after it was initially releaed.
they were inspired by the macabre and horror. Butler had a dream of a man at the foot of his bed and was inspired. They even practiced in a castle that was supposed to be haunted. They have a sound that is bluesy but with alot more kick. They were all bues inspired. Some of my favorite songs include Iron man, Paranoid, and Sabbath bloody sabbath.
Musially I really admire Iommi's playing but it is rather basic guitar stuff. Paranoid and Iron man are both based on just power chords and an occasional riff ( for those of us who know muisc. They are a great sounding band a definately worth a listen. I must say I do not like some of the occultims like 666 being on acouple of their logos but I guess you have to have a gimmick.
