amazing composer
Review of Beethoven by dorian151

Advantages: all
Disadvantages: none

Beethoven was a genuis, even though he apparently had a very bad temper and tended to throw people down the stairs when something didnt suit him! On the other hand, he became deaf, and continued to compose. As he became eventually completely deaf, he continued to grow hatred and jealousy for other composers who could hear their music. He expressed his hatred still in his songs that he wrote. One of the songs he wrote was dedicated to his pupil, ... Read review

Beethoven
Review of Beethoven by daniel_guibu

Advantages: Nothing
Disadvantages: Nothing

Beethoven is one of the best musician composer because he couldn't hear his own composition because he was a deaf person having bad moods because of his physical problems, but he gave 9 Symphonies, an Opera Naned "Fidelio", and many Sonatas as "Moonlight Snata" or "Para Elisa". About the Synphony he did many changes in his own composition, for example in the Fifth Symphony he composed the third and fouth movement as one melody, in the sixth he composed ... Read review

Incapably Brilliant
Review of Beethoven by franzed

Advantages: his songs are extraordinary, relaxing
Disadvantages: none

Ludwig Van Beethoven is one of the classical composers I ever admire. Not only was he able to compose extraordinary pieces but he was able to overcome his incapacity to hear. In fact, he contemplated and acted on it in a constructive way. Though, by nature, he is temperamental and impulsive, which often causes misjudgment on the facial expressions of his comrades, he readily asks for forgiveness in a form of a letter for such actions. He had become ...
...to envy other musicians for he cannot appreciate his own composition. Nevertheless, he pursued and succeeded and was able to create extraordinary pieces. I recommend Beethoven's collection of classical songs such as his famous, among others, Moonlight Sonata and the rest of his symphonies. It's best to listen to especially if you're mind and body is wanting for solemnity and relaxation. ... Read review

Quick review of Beethoven
Review of Beethoven by smerc1612

Many people think that Ludwig Van Beethoven was born unable to hear. The reality is that he became unable to hear along his life. We must understand that, on the contrary, he wouldn,t compose his "Nineth Symphony", because he knew perfectly all the sounds from each musical instrument. He was buried into a common fosse. Only later, he was recognise as a Grat Genious.

Beethoven's symphonies: the rediscovered frontier
Review of Beethoven Symphonies 1-9 (London Classical Players) - Sir Roger Norrington by berlioz taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages A new way to hear Beethoven
Disadvantages Surpassed by some later period cycles

...INTRODUCTION Beethoven's nine symphonies cover one of the major cornerstones of symphonic literature along with the likes of Haydn, Brahms and Sibelius. Beethoven was born in turbulent times when the common people's dissatisfaction toward the ruling monarchs in Europe was reaching new heights which finally culminated in the French Revolution in 1789. Against this came Beethoven, who was born into a family of musicians in Bonn in 1770. His father wanted to coin in on the child prodigy market created by Mozart whose father had exploited his genius in a similar way. But Beethoven was no Mozart. He wasn't born a child progidy and his performing skills were nowhere near as natural as they were with Mozart. Still he made rapid progress as a piano virtuoso and an amateur composer. He was even supposed to take some lessons with Mozart in Wien... Read review

Beethoven's music as he should have heard it.
Review of Beethoven Symphonies 1-9 (London Classical Players) - Sir Roger Norrington by Coloneljohn taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Outstanding music on period instruments
Disadvantages Swaping C.D'S in music player.

...The 9 symphonies by Ludwig Van Beethoven. (1770 - 1827) Performed by The London Classical Players. Conducted by Sir Roger Norrington. With the Schutz choir of London. Not everybody likes classical music. Even those who do, do not all like the same things. This boxed set of CD's if different from previous recordings. Firstly, it is played on period instruments. This is not to everybody’s taste. These instruments are not like today’s instruments. For instance, the violin has a cleaner but more plaintive tone. The woodwinds each has a colour and clarity of tone that blends to a harmonious whole. The timpani, those smaller drums, are hit with hard sticks more reminiscent of military drum sounds. The horn section has a different feel to it. Considering the lapse of some 184 years, it would be strange if the sounds... Read review

The essence of Beethoven's style
Review of Beethoven: Piano Concertos Nos 1 - 5 by BlueImpromtu taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages dynamic and gripping
Disadvantages none

...Fantastic to have another additional collection of all five of Beethoven's piano concerti. Spanning his life we can really get to grips with his evolving use of the orchestra in these works. From the Third's action packed finale to the Fourth's beautiful expressions to the grandeur of the much loved Fifth. The playing is precise, dramatic and full of energy; as indeed it should be. Aimard's playing is always well crafted and beautifully shaped. This is an insightful disk and has taken the musicians an awful lot of hard work. A must-have for any lover of Beethoven's piano music. If you usually go for his chamber music or string quartets why not branch out and explore Aimard's wonderful take on these concerti? Well worth buying and indeed an inspiration for myself and other pianists alike.... Read review
