Introduction

Baby Mama is a romantic/comedy about woman in her thirties who is desperate to have a baby and goes the route of hiring a surrogate mother to have a baby for her. What these two women find in each other is much more then they expected when they end up learning from each other and becoming friends.

I saw the previews for this movie on our dish last night and thought it would make a good funny comedy for my husband and I to watch after we go the children settled down for the night. I have to say it was a pretty good comedy and although not as funny as I first thought it was going to be, it was still a pretty good movie. There are parts in the movie that are very touching as well as funny. A romantic/comedy about the most unlikey couple becoming friends due to circumstances and needing something from one another.

The Main Cast :

Amy Poehler … Angie
Tina Fey …. Kate
Greg Kinnear …. Rob
Dax Shepard …Carl
Steve Martin … Barry

Summary:

Kate Holbrook played by Tina Fey is a single, successful business woman who feels she would like to have a baby of her own. She is told that she has a million to one shot of getting pregnant because she has a T-Shaped uterus. Kate is now in her late 30's and has given thought to adoption but it will take too long to go this route so she decides to contact an agency to find a surrogate mother.
Angie played by Amy Poehler is sent by the agency to become a surrogate mother for Kate. After problems arise between Angie and her boyfriend, she ends up moving in with Kate.
Kate and Angie are two completely different people from two different worlds. Kate is more of an uptight business woman whereas Angie is someone of a lower status and much more carefree and easy going . The two run into conflict when they don't see eye to eye on what Angie should be eating and even what she should be watching and listening to on television.
The two women will endure much in the nine months it takes this child to be born and you will see many surprises and twists in this movie that will have you waiting to see the way it is all going to pan out.
So how do Kate and Angie work though their differences? Does Angie become attached to the baby she is carrying? Do Angie and her boyfriend patch things up ? Who does Kate meet and how ?Do the two continue to have a friendship after the baby is born ? You will find all of this and much more when you watch the movie for yourself.

My Opinions :

This movie shows us how circumstances can bring others into our lives and how good friendships can be found and bonded when two people need each other for different reasons. How just because one if of a higher class or status or make more money does not mean that one is better then someone of a lower class just because they have not had the same opportunities, or make less money in life. We are all people and have good inside of us. We all have something to offer to someone else even if it is just to show someone that they need to loosen up a bit in life to enjoy life!
For anyone who has wanted a baby for so long you see the stresses this can add to one's life when you are not able to have something the rest of the world is able to do so easily. I was in this position myself after I had my first two children and was told I could never carry another child again. I did even look into a surrogate mother myself when my sister and I talked about her carrying a child for me. This movie brought back memories of the struggle it was for me to have another child. Although it took me many years I was able to beat the odds and have more children but can relate so easily to woman who have miscarried and are unable to bear their own children as I went through all of this myself.
You will see how Kate the uptight business woman is taught to loosen up a bit and to enjoy life where Angie is taught that sometimes it is good to act more responsible and to be more mature.

What I liked about this movie :

I found this movie enjoyable because we see how two different people from two different worlds and what they have to endure to accomplish their goals. There are parts where you will find yourself laughing out loud because of the antics of one or the other, of the woman . There is one part at the end of the movie that I couldn't help but laugh out loud even though you can pretty much guess what is going to happen.

What I did not like about this movie :

I found the beginning of this movie a little slow in getting started but if you can get past this the movie does get much better. I also found some parts of the movie were pretty predictable and I enjoy a movie more when the twists are not as predictable. I am also not a big fan of romance movies but mixed with the comedy it does make for a better movie. It takes a lot for a movie to have me laughing out loud but this movie was able to do just that .

My Recommendations :

I do recommend this to all looking for a good comedy . If you are into romantic movies you will probably enjoy this movie even more . This movie is funny and will have you laughing at the characters and what they are going to do next. And if you are into romance movies, you will find all that in this movie as well when Kate finds someone for her.

Note:

Baby Mama was released April 25, 2008 . This movie is rated PG-13 and has a run time of just over an hour and a half . Worth the time to watch when you are bored and looking for a good movie to watch. I would give this movie a rating of 8/10.
