A Musical where Sesame Street meets South Park
Review of Avenue Q by ChocolateLady

Advantages: The story, the music, the performances
Disadvantages: Not for kids under age 12

...is on… you guessed it, Avenue Q, which comes with a very varied group of - atypically - friendly neighbors. But maybe that's because not all the people on the block are human. No, these aren't aliens taking over the world; they are puppets - like on Sesame Street. In fact, the creators of this musical actually tried to get real Muppets to be part of this production but were turned down. Why? Probably because this musical has been described as "Sesame ...
...with no clients. Finally, there's Avenue Q's superintendent, Gary Coleman TV show "Different Strokes" (famous for his line "what chew talkin' about, Willis"). Of course, the real actor Gary Coleman doesn't play himself, but I think you get the picture. I'm glad to say that the music here finds a happy medium between childishly fun and adult up beat, on the jazzy side. The numbers here aren't huge productions, but they're all catchy, honest and heartfelt ... Read review

Review of Avenue Q by mariab

Advantages: good songs, funny stories and acting
Disadvantages: not for kids!

Cover the little one's ears - actually, you shouldn't even be bringing any kids to this potty mouth musical! This is an adult take of Sesame Street, but feature real life lessons intead - just read the song titles (which are surprisingly missing from the playbill - intentionally I think, so that first time watchers don't get spoiled) - "It sucks to be me", "The Internet is for Porn" and "Everyone's a Little bit racist". I watched this musical twice ... Read review

Avenue Q (London)
Review of Avenue Q (The Musical) [PA] - Original Broadway Cast by nikuhiru taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Hilarious songs and story line
Disadvantages Small theatre

...I'm sure many of you who are reading this will have heard one or two songs from Avenue Q through their travels on the internet such as "The Internet is for Porn" or "If You Were Gay" and will most likely have had a chuckle at these songs. These and many more make up what is the hilarious story and songs of Avenue Q in the Noel Coward theatre. So what is Avenue Q? Well to be as basic as I can, it is a Sesame Street parody although this really isn't the best of descriptions one can give it. While you do have very similar puppets on stage, this show is for anyone but kids. There is strong language, and there are actually sex scenes in the musical although this is simulated by the puppets. So what is the actual story line? Well the story line is about a street in New York called Avenue Q and it all begins when a recent graduate... Read review

Avenue Q
Review of Avenue Q (The Musical) [PA] - Original Broadway Cast by LEW02 taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages THE FUNIEST MUSIC EVER!
Disadvantages RUDE UNSUITABILITY

...Avenue Q is one of the most thought-through yet simple musicals. It's music and lyrics, although not to the taste of everyone, is side-splitting and thruely comical and is represented wonderfully in this broardway album. i was one of the first to see the show in the westend, following previews, after the show had come over from broadway and i was in fits of laughter and every moment and at the end a well deserved standing ovation was heard. After hearing the music in the show i knew that i had to have the album and i'm really glad i did! i can appreciate that some people would be offended by the nature and lyrics of the song, as it just about picks faults in everyone, but i believe that taken with a pinch of salt that this show and soundtrack are truely histerical and memorable!... Charming adult musical
Review of Avenue Q (The Musical) [PA] - Original Broadway Cast by DavidBedford taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Fun songs, great cast
Disadvantages Not for children or the easily offended

...An award-winning musical which might never be seen in the UK, Avenue Q is weird, wonderful, tuneful and more than a little rude. Not for prudes or children, the cast recording reflects the musical in every way. One of my favourite CDs, it's not for everyone. Are you one of the people it is for? You'll have to read on to find out... Before I delve into the delights of the CD, I'd best explain a bit about the show, otherwise things could become a bit confusing. Avenue Q is clearly inspired by Sesame Street, the kids TV show where human characters and puppets mingle on an imaginary street, dispensing education and advice to each other and to the kids in the audience at home. Avenue Q does much the same thing, but for adults. Although there is a plot (albeit an episodic one), including a love triangle, which runs through the show... Read review

Be a Broadway Baby...
Review of Broadway by  MarcoG

Advantages: Big vibrant place to see some good theatre
Disadvantages: Can be expensive and very busy

...popular shows on Broadway at the moment - that is that they've been around FOREVER (well, at least 5 years) are... > CHICAGO (MUSICAL. Classic, Brechtian, All that Jazz) > THE LION KING (MUSICAL. Disney's film, genius production! See my other review on this) > MAMMA MIA (MUSICAL. Story which has nothing to do with ABBA, but using an ABBA soundtrack, v. feel good show) > RENT (MUSICAL. Modern adaptation of La Boheme - AMAZING) But just because they've been around the longest, doesn't mean they're the best. I (that is me, moi, my personal choice) would recommend: > AVENUE Q (MUSICAL. Sesame Street for adults - OUTRAGEOUSLY BRILLIANT!) > HAIRSPRAY (MUSICAL. V.feel good) > THE LION KING (MUSICAL. Please see my other review on this) > MAMMA MIA (MUSICAL. v.feel good) > RENT (MUSICAL. Everyone must see this show) > WICKED (MUSICAL... Read review
