The Oyster 802.11 networked loudspeakers from Avega Systems are the first audiophile grade distributed, wireless, networked, UPnP-enabled surround sound system in the world. The system is a complete home entertainment solution and provides direct streaming of music stored on a PC or media server to the loudspeakers. It also provides connectivity to and wireless distribution of audio from CD/DVD players and portable media players and has the ability to establish a network if none is present in the home. By integrating surround decoding, power amplification and 802.11 and UPnP connectivity directly into speakers, the system eliminates the stack of A/V boxes and myriad of wires found in a traditional AV setup. The speakers are easy to install, aesthetically appealing and unobtrusive without compromising audio performance. By overcoming significant engineering challenges inherent in distribution of audio via 802.11 and TCP/IP, including network bandwidth variability and synchronization, Avega Systems has managed to achieve audio quality exceeding that of many high-end Hi-Fi systems.
