The new System 370 THX is the natural evolutionary step up from the highly regarded and reviewed System 350 THX. In 1995, when System 350 THX was introduced, it set new standards for high performance home theater and high fidelity music reproduction. Atlantic Technology have now refined and developed the new System 370 THX, based not only on the concepts of the 350, but also utilizing the new design technologies developed in the flagship System 450 THX. This was achieved by preserving the system's commitment to excellent sound quality and increasing the power handling and dynamic capabilities. The three front speakers contain exactly the same driver array to ensure a smooth transition when the sound pans from across these three channels. The new drivers, with the exception of the silk dome tweeters, are constructed of a new coated composite molded graphite material that exhibits outstanding linearity and low mass. Each speaker enclosure contains these new drivers in a unique 3-way D'Appolito configuration. A separate baffle containing the dual 3-1/2" midrange drivers and a 1" high power soft dome tweeter is sealed into its own separate sub-enclosure to optimize its performance and to isolate these drivers from the rest of the system. The critical midrange frequencies are reproduced without coloration and the overall frequency response of the speaker is remarkably smooth. The 373 C incorporates a new proprietary Boundary Compensation Control. This control compensates for the midrange coloration induced by first reflections off of a TV screen. By flattening the frequency response with this control, dialog becomes much more intelligible and the "boxiness" that is so common to center channel speakers is significantly reduced. A THX position on the control is provided for "free air" THX operation. To further optimize performance, the center channel is fitted with a tiltable base, to aim the speaker at the listening position. The 374 SR surround speakers are optimized for use with all multi-channel digital surround formats and use an asymmetrically oriented dipolar configuration to create a convincing sense of space and ambience. Two 5-1/4" coated composite molded graphite woofers and two 3/4" fabric dome tweeters are mounted on adjacent sides of each V-shaped cabinet. These drivers are phase inverted to provide wide, spacious imaging while still maintaining distinct right and left surround localization. The speakers are easily mounted on the wall or placed on top of optional matching pedestal floor stands. The 372 PBM powered subwoofer incorporates a specially designed 275 watt high current class G linear amplifier, nearly identical to our flagship 452 PBM. The driver is a 15" long throw design with a composite cone and an enormous motor assembly. The amplifier, driver voice coil characteristics, and cabinet dimensions were optimized to work together to provide deep, highly defined bass at very low frequencies. The enclosure is heavily braced internally to prevent undesirable cabinet resonances. It features automatic standby operation, an 18 dB/octave low-pass filter, preset THX low-pass mode, high-pass inputs and outputs as well as line level inputs and outputs. An absolute phase switch and front panel level control make the 372 PBM very easy to use and set up. In addition, this new powered subwoofer meets THX specifications for a 3000 cu.ft. room with a single enclosure. For larger rooms (6000 cu.ft.) two 372 PBM's are recommended.
