I upgraded to the iPod Touch in March of 2008, and have been very happy with the purchase. I've had many different iPods over the past few years, and this is the first that has really sold me on the concept of watching video on such a small device.
The screen is very impressive, for such a small space. It is very clear and makes viewing a lot easier then past iPods.
The other nice feature is the Wi-Fi, which I use quite often. This is not to be confused with the iPhone, which has constant access to the internet. If you want that feature, you are going to pay a lot more, including monthly charges.
This device, the Touch, is best used for music, video and general internet access.
If you are choosing between the 8 and the 16 Gig - go for the 16. It is worth a bit more to have the extra space. Videos / movies take up a lot of space.
Overall, a great new device, and one that I would recommend to a friend that has been waiting for a bigger screen to enjoy videos.
