and easy part literally doubles overnight - because the newest iMac computers are powered by the Intel Core Duo. This revolutionary bit of technology is actually two processors built into a single chip, giving iMac up to twice the horsepower it had previously. So the wows will come faster than ever before.More than an evolution of processor design, Intel Core Duo is an order-of-magnitude leap forward. It's the first Intel chip born of the new 65-nanometer process, which allows for the creation of transistors so small, you could fit a hundred inside a single human cell. With two powerful processors designed to share resources and circuitry so unimaginably small, Intel Core Duo achieves far higher levels of performance while actually consuming less power. In the world of iMac, nothing is complicated - even when the internal architecture advances so dramatically. So when it comes to running software on your Intel-based iMac, prepare for the expected: it just works. Applications with the Universal symbol run on either PowerPC- or Intel-based iMac computers. Most existing applications will run on your Intel-based iMac, too. Simply launch them as always. Thanks to the Rosetta technology in Mac OS X, they look and feel just like they did before.
Advantages: Beautiful display, speedy processor, stable and reliable operating system. Disadvantages: Only 1GB of RAM standard, non-upgradable video card, glossy display may become irritating.
The 2.4 GHz iMac is Apple's low-end version of its popular all-in-one desktop computer line, though in actuality, there's nothing very "low-end" about it. It has a built in 20" glossy widescreen display, a very fast Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a gigabyte of RAM standard, 3 USB ports (plus two more on the keyboard), a FireWire 400 and 800 port for faster peripherals, built-in wireless and Bluetooth, an included keyboard and mouse, and a FrontRow remote ... ...may want to consider upgrading off the bat is the RAM, as 1GB may not fully satisfy your needs if you're going to use your iMac for audio/video work. The iMac can support up to 4GB of RAM, which is really more than any average consumer would need by today's standards, but as technology is rapidly growing and software is becoming more and more sophisticated, that 4GB capacity will come in handy in the future.
