Advantages: Looks Great Disadvantages: Not so good for iPod users
The Apple Remote is a small white device which can be used to operate a number of products made by Apple.
It comes free with all new Macs, and with the desktop iMac which I own, it attaches to the side of the screen magnetically.
The unit itself is incredibly small and can control play, pause, skip and volume functions. There's also a menu button for accessing things like 'Front Row' - Apple's version of Media Center.
Costing £15 from the Apple ... ...a great deal, as my Apple Keyboard has iTunes controls on it anyway - but I can see that if you use your computer as your main 'entertainment system', the product could be handy.
Overall if you're an iPod user, I would recommend holding off buying one of these for a few more months, as Apple will undoubtedly release a version with added functionality.
If you're a desktop or laptop Mac user, you'll probably own one of these anyway, and will realise ...

Apple Remote Review ofApple Infrared Remote controlby
bournecain
Advantages: Small, easy to carry, low price Disadvantages: none
The Apple Remote. It's a good accessory that you can get with your Mac. I got one for free with my MacBook, but now they are not providing it for free, instead you would have to buy one for $19. It is a versatile device, As the name goes, it is a remote and can be used to switch tracks. Well, that's not the only thing it can do. It is directly liked with Front Row. Front Row is an application that acts a HQ for all your music , videos and photos. ... ...can be directly used with iTunes to manage music. Play, pause, Fast Forward, Rewind buttons are provided with it.So the basic functions can be done using it. Very helpful when you are on the couch. It can be used with other third party applications too. For example, it can be used with VLC player to fast forward and rewind on videos. Also it can be used to play presentations. It can be used along with Keynote to play through the presentation, which ...

Advantages Small, simple, well designed and not overcomplicated Disadvantages It's listed on Ciao incorrectly so doesn't show it's full potential.
...channel or even pausing live TV. There are many things it can do, it integrates with many different software packages on a Mac. The one thing that other people seem to see as this products downfall I find it's strength, it's simple, with simple controls that adapt depending to the programme you are using. When using the remotecontrol the computer or ipod responds quickly to your touch of the remotecontrol buttons.
This remote comes with new Apple computers but if you buy one for your ipod it comes with a dock you sit the ipod in to provide it with infrared so it can talk to the infrared on the remotecontrol. This package cost £35.00 direct from Apple but you may be able to grab one a little cheaper elsewhere.
The remote measures 8cms x 3cms x 0.8cms, very sweet.
It has a play/pause button.
Forward and back button that double...

Advantages Good industrial design, free with Macs, simple Disadvantages Battery difficult to replace (on my example)
...The AppleInfraredremote is a good solution not only for use with an iPod dock, but also with any Macintosh computer that has Frontrow capability. The remote interface is much simpler than the keyspan remote I had previously used, but it works very well. It is quite similar to a first generation iPod shuffle in layout an appearance with the addition of a menu button. As far as I have noticed, the menu button has no effect over the iPod's functions, but it does launch and help with navigation through the Frontrow application. For those unfamiliar with Frontrow, it is a bundled Home Theater PC application included with Intel Macintosh computers. It integrates well with iTunes and provides a good simple Home Theater PC solution.
The Appleremote feels strong and I wouldn't worry about it breaking even if it is stepped on. Judging from...

Advantages The most stylish piece of kit i have bought in a long time. Disadvantages Menu button that requires an Imac
...I bought the remote to use with my 30gb ipod video in conjunction wih the universal docking station and my stereo. I was under the impression that the remote would allow me to control my ipod totally via the remote, this is not the case. The remote has function buttons to allow the user to Play/Pause, Vol+, Vol-, Previous and Next. This does not allow selection through playlists or albums and will only really come into use once you have manually selected a playlist from the ipod by hand. The remote contains a "Menu" button that is rendered totally useless unless the ipod is used through an imac, as i do not have an imac i cannot reveal the features that are available(it can be frustrating having a button that would be so useful to you not working). The ipod itself is a typical apple product it is well built and looks and feels expensive...
