Manufacturer's product description
The AD-600A sports a stylish and modern look and delivers a wide range of outstanding features. The most important buttons (open/close, stop, power, etc.) are on the face of the APEX; all other features are accessible via the remote. The DVD picture is crisp and clear, and the sound is exceptional. The greatest "extra" feature on the AD-600A is its ability to play CDRs filled with MP3 files. This allows anyone with a CD writer to playback audio CDs of 12 hours in length or greater on their APEX. Other than the oft-mentioned MP3 abilities, the APEX AD-600A has unique VCD and Karaoke features.

Advantages Plays all media just about Disadvantages hard to use remote control
...The ApexAD-600A is not the highest quality DVD Player, but it may just have the most compatibility. I bought this DVD Player because I have a lot of media that most DVD players just wont play. CDRW's, VCD's, Non-Regional CD's and more. The apex will play them all.
This unit is cheap. $179 What other DVD players in this price range can live up to the standards that this one set? The picture is excellent, sound is great. The ApexAD600A is definitely the best DVD player for your buck. No other DVD players in this price range have all of the above mentioned features.
READ ABOUT THE MP3'S AND THE LOOPHOLES BELOW.

Advantages Can play all region DVD's, VCD's, audio CD's, and M-P3's Disadvantages No scart socket on player
...For a long time, I just couldn't see the point in having a DVD player. Ok - crystal clear picture and sound. But, as long as you've got a half decent vcr and tv, then VHS isn't THAT bad, is it? And, ok with DVD discs, you often get 'extra' features. Yeah, yeah...well, last time I checked, when someone wants to see a movie, they don't necessarily WANT to see an interview with the director boring as all to death with detailed explanations of how he felt the development of the character....etc, etc.
People - I'm happy to tell you; I've seen the light! I bought an APEX vddv AD-600A player for £200 (found the dealer on Yahoo! auctions, if you're interested), and I was impressed straight away. Using "Aliens-special edition" as my first taster, I connected the player up pumping the audio through an ordinary stereo amplifier. Man, what...

Advantages PAL and NTSC playback, multi region, MP3 support Disadvantages problems with discs using seamless branching, some disc menus fail to work correctly
...Considering the price, I was impressed with the picture quality. While not the best I have seen, it was a lot better than I was expecting. I was also surprised with the speed of navigation through disc menus. Discs which seem to take an age to navigate on other players seem to fly on the Apex. The VCD support is good, and the Apex can also play music CD, CDR and CDW as well as MP3 files. However, in order to recognise the MP3 files, the CD must be 'burned' in a specific format. The Apex supports both PAL and NTSC discs, and can convert one playback standard to another. This along with a easy to access 'hidden menu' allowing the region coding to be bypassed or altered makes the Apex a true multi-region machine. There are a few problems - nothing is perfect. My version of the machine will not play some titles with seamless branching...
