I always check Amazon first when I shop online, being a huge store, their buying power ensures lower prices than other smaller shops. A lot of vendors also sell via their platform, so it's like shopping at a portal and instead of checking out at 5 different sites, you do it all right on one site. So far, I've had good experiences ordering vitamins, books, toys, health care products, and housewares. The vitamins and toys came from outside vendors but they shipped quickly too and you get the standard order confirmation email and the order shipping email with tracking number and the while process was a breeze.
The community feature is very helpful too, you get a survey of people's opinions on a certain product before you fork over the money. I personally see too many negative reviews on a generally okay product, probably because people who take the time to write feel very strongly about something and the ones who're satisfied don't bother reviewing. Just read the reviews with a grain of salt.
Amazon keeps adding new products every day, I didn't realize they started selling shoes too until recently, the selection is interesting and the prices definitely beat Zappos, if I ever get shoes from there, will post about my experience.
