Simple, Silent gameplay
Review of Alleyway for Game Boy by UberNess

Advantages: Breakout is always fun
Disadvantages: Little to no audio, bland graphics

Alleyway for the Game Boy. This game is pretty much a clone of Breakout, but it stars everyone's favorite plumber, Mario! Too bad the only time you see him is when he jumps into his little pod... Graphically this game is simple, nothing much to show...You get to see Mario's 8-bit self jump into the pod/paddle, and then for the rest of the game you see bricks, bricks and.....a ball. Thats it. To top it off, the game is in glorious monochrome! But ...
...when Mario jumps into his little pod. That is all. The whole game is silent, execpt for the annoying sound the ball makes when it breaks a block. Alleyway for the gameboy is bland and boring. Though it is an alternative to Tetris...not that anyone gets sick of Tetris. ... Read review

Manufacturer's product description

A basic breakout clone. As mario you must control a "podship" and deflect the ball towards the mass of blocks. Hitting a block will either weaken or destroy it. Once all the blocks are destroyed, the level is complete. Alleyway uses a small number of repeating tables along with twists such as horizontal rotation, periodical vertical drop of the entire mass of blocks etc.

Additional information

Detailed Description: Mario must destroy a brick wall, but he isn't going to go after it with a hammer. Instead, Mario will pilot a paddle and bounce a ball off of the wall. Every time the ball hits a brick, the brick will disappear. As the ball begins to eliminate more and more bricks, it begins to move faster, and once all of the bricks are eliminated a new level appears. As the game progresses, the formation will change from a simple rectangle to more complex patterns that start moving. In some of the bonus stages, the bricks are arranged to form classic Nintendo characters. It's up to you to help Mario destroy the bricks and keep the ball moving in ALLEYWAY.
