Advantages Cheap, scans come out pretty well too Disadvantages Not compatible with Windows 2000
...I've had the AGFASnapScan1212p for a few years now. I would agree that it's not exactly a slimline scanner, but then again, compare it with other scanners that are a few years old and it's nothing out of the ordinary.
It's very easy to install in Windows 95 and Windows 98. Upgrading from Windows 98 to ME didn't make a difference, it quite happily continued working without needing to be installed again.
I tend to use the TWAIN import feature in my paint package though, instead of using the software that came with the scanner. It's slow by todays standards but then I did pick it up for £20 on the bargain rail in PC World about three years ago!
The speed is not a problem unless you're scanning lots of items, I am a fairly light scanner user so it doesn't matter to me. The resolution is fine as well, colour reproduction is pretty...

Advantages Cheap, adequate for email/web sites, maybe other applictaions as well Disadvantages No driver available for Win2000
...The 1212p (the 'p' stands for parallel port version) is getting quite and old piece of kit now and can therefore be picked up relatively cheaply ( try www.morgancomputers.co.uk for instance). But a bargain is only a bargain if it performs the tasks you require.
I purchased this scanner almost a year ago and have been using it to scan photos and articles to send via email and place on the web - this does not require a very high resolution and accurate colour reproduction isn't a high priority. Having said that it was a bonus that the 1212p has a resonably good resolution and produces accurate colour reproduction (at least on my monitor!). I have scanned photos in at digital-photo printing quality (300dpi) and it performs well at this resolution.
The quality of the scans are high, but the speed to produce them isn't amazing - my...

Advantages Easy to use. Disadvantages Doesn't recognise the scanner sometimes.
...I bought a scanner last week from Dixon's and I've been having lots of fun with it ever since, and am now planning to use it to build a web site.I've already used it to scan some photos onto a web page for my friends in Australia. It was very easy to do.
It comes with all the software you need, and the scanwise programme is very easy to use. It's a simple step-by-step programme which my Granny could use.Make sure you set the scan to the Small File-low quality setting when you scan as it loads up quicker on the web page....
