Using AT-FAST & PCI-FAST in combination with today's high speed modems and ISDN terminal adapters (digital modems) is the perfect way to get the most out of your Internet connection. These multi-port solutions break the PC COM port bottleneck providing the high-speed connections needed in today's fast paced life. This allows users to access information from around the world while keeping call costs and download times to a minimum, because time on-line costs money. The demand for low cost serial solutions has come full circle with the advances of CPU performance and UART technology. Until recently expensive serial I/O solutions were widely used for intensive applications to off-load I/O tasks from the low power host CPU's. With the advent of today's high performance processors and RISC-based technology, low cost cards are now more popular, providing performance that equals more expensive solutions. In many systems the COM ports are limited to around 19.2 kbps and although it may be possible to select higher baud rates, the throughput will be limited. This would be particularly noticeable when downloading information from the Internet. Replacing these standard COM ports with a Chase multi-port solution solves this problem. Using intelligent 16C654 UARTs both AT-FAST & PCI-FAST give unrivalled performance, taking care of the hardware and software flow control and character buffering.
