Manufacturer's product description
The P5K series of motherboards provide four outstanding features for the user. The Deluxe version of the motherboard has built-in native DDR2 1066 support and is able to overclock with an ultra high frequency to achieve DDR2 1400. This ASUS motherboard still provides you with quiet thermal solutions - which contain the 8-phase power design, Stack Cool 2 and the Heat Pipe Design functions. It also comes with the newest AI Gear 2 to save up to 50% of CPU power usage. Complementing all these features are ASUS's innovative tools - AI Slot Detector, allowing the user to conveniently install the computer. The P5K series decreases temperature, provides stable overclocking, lowers noise levels and saves the most electricity.

Advantages Easy overclocking, well laid out, packed with features Disadvantages One IDE port, expensive.
...model for example defaults at 2.4Ghz but even an overclocking novice with aircooling could quite easily get one of these chips to 3Ghz and the performance increase is quite amazing. However to get it there you need an expensive board as very few of the cheap ones can produce high overclocks.
This is where the AsusP5K range come in. They are the high end Asus boards taking over the 975 and 965 chipset boards with the all new P35 chipset. It is arguable that the new chipset doesn't actually offer anything over the 965 chipset in terms of overclocking but what the P35 does give you is the compatibility with new faster processors soon to be released. Clearly seeing as the prices of high end 975 and 965 boards are roughly the same as the P5KDeluxe it makes sense to aquire a little future proofing too.
The board itself is packed full...
