...assembly is a position-and-push affair that requires no screws or awkward clips to hold it in place. The heatsink even came with a patch of thermal compound attached to its base, so there were no problems with creating a good contact with the chip. I have read that some motherboards have trouble keeping these self locking heatsinks firmly in place, so it may be worth checking reviews of mobos before you buy one. The AbitSG-95 board I am using has no such issues.
As with all newer CPU cooling assemblies, the fan is equipped with a speed control pin and an RPM sensor. This allows the motherboard to control the fan speed according to how hot the chip is running. In practice this is a necessary option, because at full speed this fan is as loud as a jet engine.
